Meet the Seamstress...
Hi there! My name is Halaina, and I am a young lady (18, going on 19) who loves to sew! I am also a disciple of Jesus/Yeshua, and believe that we should dress modestly. I am excited to be able to hopefully bless some other families who are on the same journey, with affordable, beautiful modest clothing!
A LITTLE ABOUT ME: I am the oldest in my family, and have many younger siblings. We live in Minnesota. I am currently battling chronic mold toxicity (and also probably chronic Lyme), so I have a lot of health issues at this time. For that reason, I hope that you can give me a little extra time in filling your orders. 🙂 But I am so excited to sew for others, and will get to your order as soon as I can!
About payment: I have chosen not to use a conventional card payment processor on my site. All of the payment networks and most payment processors have values very different from mine, and I try to support them as little as possible. I prefer Zelle payment transfers (which are instant and free) or a check / money order.
Designing this website has been a learning process for me, and I am so thankful to be this far along now! There’s definitely some things I can improve eventually, but for now it seems good enough to start with! Your feedback, ideas, and/or other product requests are welcome!
MY WEBSITE NAME: “Modestly Feminine- where modesty & femininity unite!” My dream is to create clothing that is very feminine-looking and pretty, while not compromising on modesty standards that I believe are important.
A little explanation on my definitions of “modest” and “feminine”:
Feminine Clothing makes me think of pretty dresses and skirts, maybe with ruffles, lace, pretty floral fabric, etc. Feminine clothing, however, may not necessarily cover enough skin.
On the other hand, Modest clothing means clothing that cover the body meeting a biblical standard of modesty (taken from various biblical texts that speak about clothing, the human body, sexuality, etc.). I believe the thighs and cleaveage should not be exposed, as there are biblical texts that infer this. Based on these texts, I believe biblically modest clothing is not tight-fitting, low neckline (that shows cleavage, including when you bend over), sleeveless, above-the-knee, etc.
Modest clothing could also be very plain- simple styles and dark, solid-color fabrics, but I don’t see biblical evidence that this is necessarily a requirement. I believe God gave us colors to enjoy, and they reflect His beauty and artwork!
So, to sum it up, I want to unite BOTH of these concepts- to make Beautiful, Feminine, Modest clothing, that’s Affordable, too!
NOTE: I realize that one’s definition of “modest clothing” can have some variance even amongst people who are trying to define modesty using the Bible. But the important thing, as God-fearers, is that we do our best to use the text of Scripture as a guide, and not our own perception of decency based on our cultural experience.
Also, I would love to be able to share sewing/modesty tips that I’ve learned with others! I hope to start some sort of a blog someday, but for now, if you are a young lady (or any lady) who would like to contact me with questions, etc., I’d love to help you out if I can!
There have been a few wonderful ladies in my life that have helped me so much with my sewing questions, and given me inspiration for the products I offer…
One of these is Hope Agustin, @homesewnmama on Instagram. She has so many helpful sewing tips & tutorials! While I have a different modesty standard than her, I am deeply grateful for her investment in me. She is such a sweet lady, and really knows her stuff! I recommend that you check her out! She also sells head coverings on her shop, HeadcoversByHope.
Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have!
On a side note, I also have invested in a variety of used homeschool books and am making these available to others. Check out my page on HomeschoolClassifieds!
