Please use a soft measuring tape and measure your body (not a garment). Measure snugly but not tight — do not add extra room. I will add the necessary ease, seam allowances, and hems to ensure a proper fit.

Measure around your head at the widest point (across the forehead and around the back). Only needed for dresses that must go on over the head.
Measure straight across your back from the edge of one shoulder to the other. Wearing a shirt you love the fit of can help you decide where you want the shoulder seams and neckline to sit.
Measure from the base of your neck outward toward your shoulder to where you want the shoulder seam to sit. This measurement determines how wide the neckline will be. It does not have to sit right at the base of the neck.
Measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape level all the way around.
Measure from the top of your shoulder straight down to where you want the waist seam to sit.
Measure from the shoulder seam down to the lowest point you want the neckline to reach.
Measure from the top of the shoulder down to where you want the sleeve to end.
Measure around where you want the waist of the dress to sit on your body. This does not have to be your natural waist. For example, maternity or empire styles will sit higher, and low-waist styles will sit lower.
Measure from the top of your shoulder straight down to where you want the hem of the dress to fall.
